The effect of ammonium nitrate particle structure on the detonability of multi-component explosives

The article contains data on the history of development of the insight into the structure of ammonium nitrate particles-granules, The authors propose the classification of the known varieties of ammonium nitrate produced by the nitrogen and nitrogen-compound making industry and commercially available for the fabrication of multi-component explosives. Special attention is attached to porous ammonium nitrate of the internationally accepted quality, which is now commercially produced in Novomoskovsk. The presented materials are proved by the results of experiments with multi-component explosives of various compositions, including the estimates of comparative explosive efficiency for lead column deformation under the effect of shock wave and explosion products.
