TEV Series of Car Pullers: Guaranteed Traffic Safety

Abstract: Car Pullers of the TEV Series are the most economical and convenient means to relocate a car string when hauling bulky goods at loading and unloading complexes of manufacturing facilities. Their key advantage is the possibility to control them remotely. Assuring accident prevention is one of the key aspects that is given a particular attention to during the design and manufacturing of this type of the car pullers. A universal means to secure accident prevention is the brake system. In order to verify the possibility to stop the train in movement and retain it in the down grade, studies have been performed by PromTechTrans LLC of the train braking efficiency when using the brake system of the TEV series car puller depending on the descent grade and the train set weight. The permissible grade of the railway section is calculated as a function of the car string weight and the breaking efficiency to secure the traffic safety during the train retention on the inclined track. The accuracy of calculation is further secured by taking into account the impact of the train velocity on its breaking efficiency and observation of the established velocity standards. The paper presents a methodology to calculate the efficiency of the TEV series car puller breaking system. Specialists of PromTechTrans LLC have designed a remote control circuit for the train’s self-acting brake and separately for the secondary compressed air brake with electrical operation of the car pullers of the TEV series. For this purpose, a maximum pressure valve was introduced into the feed line of the secondary brake. In order to remotely control the compressed-air brake, the circuit was supplemented with an electropneumatic brake application relay, that together with the braking line from the brake control valve is connect to the brake cylinder line through an OR gate, represented by a changeover valve. The traffic safety is secured by the accepted operational principles of the electropneumatic relays that control compressed-air systems and that in case of emergency power dump of the TEV series car puller would activate the breaking system of either the car puller or the car string.
