Efficient extinguishing of exogenous fires in underground coal mines

The article discusses the ways for the enhancement of the efficiency of exogenous fire extinguishing in underground coal mines. Major principles are described of the system approach to the selection of equipment parameters and methods of fire extinguishing. The authors prove the fact that at the initial stages of fires, fire extinguishers play a major role in the fire safety of underground coal mines. The article contains the classification of fire extinguishers by fire extinguishing agents, weight and type of energy source.

The authors present the equation providing for the assessment of the efficiency of the available fire extinguishers and scientific grounding of the requirements to engineering parameters of novel promising products for fire-fighting applications.
