Providing safety and efficiency of blasting operations at coal opencast mines of Mongolia

The article presents summarized information on geography and climate of Mongolia, with the emphasis on the peculiar characteristics having an effect on the efficiency and safety in mining operations employing the blasting method of rock breaking. The authors describe an opportunity of finding some reasonable solutions for the use of natural phenomena resulting in the alteration of physical and mechanical characteristics of ammonium nitrate and perfection of the quality of ammonium nitrate-based multicomponent explosives. The technologies of explosives fabrication are described, which provide the efficiency of blasting processes in various conditions, including loosening of coals liable to spontaneous combustion.
