The article presents the analysis and generalization of geological conditions of brown coal deposits in the Kansk-Achinsk Basin. Patterns of the man-made coal resource formation along the strike and down the dip of the coal seam within the boundaries of the Borodinsky opencast mine were identified based on the results of the analysis of the mathematical model. A system approach was used for the justification of the direction of mining front development, plan of the deposit development, with due account for the patterns of excess mined-out area distribution in the dumping zone of the opencast mine.
