The authors present the analysis of chemical processes going in the course of coal dust combustion in coal mines. It is proved that for the assessment of coal dust explosion yield it is important to take into account the petrographic composition and level of the coal matter arrangement. Chemical processes involve free radicals (PMC) of carbon dust particles and molecules of air oxygen and hydrogen resulting from methane decomposition. Chemical reactions involving coal dust go as a stepwise process according to the principle of the process trend and temperature level. The yield of coal dust explosion decreases with the growth of methane concentration and reduction of the oxygen concentration in the air. Prevention or minimization of coal dust hazard risk must be based on the neutralizing of free radicals. Wetting of finely dispersed dust particles is not grounded in terms of physics because of the hydrophobic nature of dust particles or size of dust particles and water drops.
