The authors prove that in underground mine workings methane combustion and explosions occur at lower concentrations than those dictated by the standards approved for the mining sector. This can be explained by the fact that concentration limits have been set in terms of volume concentration, when with the increase of pressure the volume concentration of methane and air remains unchanged, while their molar concentration increases. This results in the decrease of the explosibility threshold. At the same time, the rate of combustion and explosive chemical reactions also increases.
