The article describes a system for monitoring and warning personnel of a coal mine, created in the Design and Engineering Institute for Computer Technology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy o Sciences (Novosibirsk). The main functions of the system include monitoring of the personnel whereabouts in underground workings, warning about emergencies, and search of miners caught in mine disasters, including those remaining in cave&ins and collapses. The system setup, structure and software potential are presented in detail, along with the hardware configuration and technical specifications, applied standards and communications protocols. At present the system is successfully operates in Sibirginaskaya Mine (AOO Yuzhnyy Kuzbas, town of Myski, Kemerovo Oblast).
