Abstract: The paper studies the potential for economic development of Russia's border region, the Tyva Republic. In the south and south-east parts of Tuva border with Mongolia, the country that the Russian Federation has long maintained good neighbour and friendly relations as well as developed trade and economic ties with. New areas of interaction aimed at more intensive development of foreign economic activity are involved in interstate exchange due to such factors as ensuring transport accessibility, including the road infrastructure of both sides of the border, i.e. in Tuva (the Russian Federation) and Mongolia. As the result of this study, the need for systemic measures in the region's economy, which could affect its structural and volume characteristics, is justified. A conclusion is made that successful implementation of the export potential of small and mediumsized businesses in the Republic of Tuva currently depends on execution of the infrastructural project to create the Khandagayty multilateral road crossing point, which should result in significant changes in the volume and structural characteristics of the region's economy as a whole.
