Evolution of cutting picks for underground mining machinery

The article shows the evolution of rock-cutting picks throughout the history of mankind, and their importance for modern underground mines. The authors describe the advantages and shortcomings of forwardattack rotating picks, which are widely used with underground mining machines. The authors show a promising area of pick design perfection and present their classification of forward-attack rotating picks, including a new category of blade-type picks.
