Abstract: This paper presents the results of the study aimed at solving issues of ensuring the safety of mining operations in the mine development workings in terms of forecasting and controlling gas-dynamic phenomena. The experiment described in the work creates a basis for developing a method to assess gas dynamic activity in the bottomhole part of the coal seam using an innovative device that allows assessing changes in the gas content of the seam along the line from the bottomhole to the geostatic stress zone during the development of preparatory workings. It is proposed to develop a method of current forecast of emission hazard, which will increase the face advance rates and ensure the safety of mining operations, based on assessing methane mobility in the mine working and the new approach of assessing the gas-dynamic hazard of the formation presented in the paper.

Keywords: geomechanical stresses, gas pressure, development workings, sudden coal and gas outburst, gas content, safety of mining operations
