Opportunities and prospects for the development of gold ore deposits in Tuva

Abstract: Siberia’s natural resources, including hydrocarbons and solid minerals, have significant strategic potential for the region’s economic development. A significant part of the deposits are concentrated in hard-to-reach areas with harsh climatic conditions, which complicates their development. One of the promising areas in the mining industry of Siberia is the development of gold deposits in the Republic of Tuva. The republic has a unique geographical location and rich mineral resources, including significant reserves of placer and primary gold, which makes it attractive for investment in the mining industry. In recent years, there has been a decrease in the volume of placer gold production in the Republic of Tuva due to depletion of the deposits. Nevertheless, the republic has a significant potential for primary gold. According to preliminary estimates, the resource potential of the Republic of Tuva in terms of gold ore mining is more than four hundred tons. Implementation of efficient economic projects, such as the development of the Despensky gold deposit, has the potential to become a catalyst for the social and economic development of the region. The economic analysis of this project demonstrates its high profitability: the net present value is estimated to reach 1,685 million rubles with the internal rate of return staying at 31.6%, and the payback period of the project being 3.2 years.
