Abstract: The paper considers design aspects of a system to remotely monitor the technical condition of assemblies and components of mine dump trucks, as well as their operation modes. The list of diagnostic parameters for critical units, i.e. the engine, traction electric drive and hydraulic system, is identified. Operational parameters that significantly affect the efficiency, safety and technical availability of a dump truck include its load and speed, fuel consumption, driving quality, condition of the suspension, frame and the road surface. Algorithms are described that provide control over the dump truck operation based on indirect indicators, i.e. pressure of the oil-air mix in suspension cylinders, speed and inclinometer readings. The advantages of condition-based maintenance and servicing of dump trucks are shown in comparison with the traditional scheduled maintenance approach as recommended by the mining equipment manufacturer. Using the SUEK coal mines as an example, the paper studies issues concerned with effective implementation of a diagnostic monitoring system at a mining company, which are crucial for achieving the automation goals.
