The system is demonstrated to be characterized by an optimal combination of wired and wireless communication channels. An important stage in designing the underground infrastructure for the system is the procedure to determine the locations of communication hubs, i.e. base stations, inside the mine. This is done using the described calculation and experimental method that takes into account the propagation pattern of the radio field emitted by the base stations antennas. It is shown that equipment of different design that depends on the radio signal propagation patterns is used in creation of the system’s underground infrastructure in the working areas. A conclusion is made that a precondition to provide all the declared functionality of the SBGPS system is availability of stable radio communication between the underground infrastructure nodes and individual positioning-and-signalling devices.
