Abstract: Industrial estimation of natural accumulations of any type of mineral raw materials is the final stage of geological exploration and it serves as a basis for designing the system for the mineral deposits. In this connection the key requirements and tasks of industrial estimation of oil and gas fields are determined by the need to obtain through exploration and pilot development of the deposit such data that could be used to identify the geological structure of the field, estimate its reserves and perform rational reservoir engineering in an economically justified way and with maximum detail. Oilfield engineering and practice have developed a number of methods to estimate the reserves. Each of these methods can be applied at a certain stage of the field development. The main and most universal method of calculating oil reserves is the volumetric method, which can be implemented at any stage of reservoir development with varying degrees of accuracy. The importance of the volumetric method of reserve estimation is also explained by the fact that the study of geological features of the field structure in order to determine its shape, size, nature of reservoirs, their oil content, etc., which is the basis of the volumetric method, is the logical conclusion of geological exploration, while determination of almost all the parameters of the volumetric method is also necessary for the development project. The purpose of this scientific analysis was to identify the differences and evaluate the advantages of applying the volumetric method for estimating oil and gas reserves in Southwest Turkmenistan. The widespread use of the volumetric method has become a solution to this problem because it takes into account the changes in the reservoirs during exploitation, which makes the estimation of reserves more reliable. Application of this method can also increase the reliability of predicting the trend of changes in oil and gas reserves in the future, improving the accuracy of hydrocarbon recovery forecasts, improving the field development and making capital investment planning more efficient.
