Abstract: The article attempts to quantitatively assess the relationship between sociocultural processes and innovative activity in a region with a predominance of mining production, i.e. in the Republic of Tyva. In particular, the authors calculated the impact of changes in the ethnic composition of the population on macroeconomic indicators (the structure and dynamics of the gross regional product, the share of innovative goods, works and services in the total volume of shipped goods, works and services). It is concluded that there is a connection between innovation processes in Tuva and the dynamics of sociocultural realities, which is largely mediated. Regions with weak economies are encouraged to prioritize the development of the mining industry to increase the household incomes and regional budgets. Upon achieving a sufficient economic potential in the medium and long term, it is necessary to move to priority support for small and medium-sized industries, which, subject to specialization in the field of manufacturing, fully realize the innovative potential of the economy of the lagging regions.
