Abstract: Various types of tourism have developed significantly over the last decade as an effective and dynamically growing activity in Russia and its regions. Regions with specific transport accessibility and infrastructure development levels have seen a growing relevance of developing low-cost types of tourism. The article examines the possibilities of developing mining and industrial tourism in the Republic of Tyva. It defines the concept of mining and industrial tourism, which is proposed as a priority direction for tourism development in municipalities as a low-cost, environmentally friendly, i.e. not damaging the environment and landscapes, competitive and effective type of activity. Criteria and indicators of the qualitative potential are specified for the development of the analyzed type of tourism. Territories with the most favorable conditions for the development of this type of tourism are identified based on analyzing official statistics on the social and economic processes in 19 municipalities of Tyva using the GIS analysis methods. The potential ranges from very high, through high, medium and low down to very low. For the areas with high and medium attractiveness for the development of mining tourism, it is advisable to solve the challenge of transport accessibility and alleviate other infrastructural constraints. For areas with low and very low attractiveness, mining tourism does not currently appear to be promising. However, it might be feasible to efficiently promote agricultural, wildlife, and extreme tourism in these areas.
