Abstract: This article reveals modern approaches to industry-specific mining and geological education using the case of the InterUniversity Academic Center for Navigation in mining and geological professions and museum experience. The article describes creation and development of a communication environment that forms fundamentally new conditions for education and upbringing of children and young people in the field of Earth sciences, career guidance in mining and geological professions, and a fusion of fundamental academic science and domestic vocational education. Owing to the latest scientifically based distance learning programs developed by the Center, as well as implementation of competitive research and educational projects for children and young people, the scope of scientific cooperation has been expanded, including its geographical coverage, curricula and projects accessible to all educational institutions in the Russian Federation have been created, and the process of orienting young people towards the study of natural sciences has been reinforced. The innovative forms of remote work with educational institutions in the Russian Federation that have been developed expand the information and cultural space, involve a wide range of children and young people in the educational process, ensure interaction between the younger generation and leading industry companies and research organizations, and strengthen the process of integrating industry science into the educational environment. The article presents a model of higher education using the case study of the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University.
